Mamma Mia, Abba Teens!

The dream has been fulfilled. They wanted to become stars. And it's happened - without lifting a finger. - People are already looking at us in the street, says Dhani Lennevald, 15, in the Swedish Abba Teens, who yesterday stormed the Voxpop chart [TV program where viewers ring and vote for their favourite song - Grant].

Two weeks ago, no one had heard of Dhani Lennevald, 15, Amit Paul, 16, Sara Lumholdt, 15, and Marie Serneholt, 16. But then it happened quickly.

Their happy pop version of Abba's "Mamma Mia" raced into first place on yesterdays's Voxpop chart.

It seems that no one can stop the four teenagers' success.

The single was heard for the first time on radio a couple of weeks ago and is now played all the time, although it is not released into record shops until 17 May.

Five days after the single's release, the group will start a summer tour through ten cities, with David Tainton as support.

Success is really taking a chance.

Or will you say that it is a clever ploy by the record company, Stockholm Records?

It started when the youngsters' dance school teacher, Lasse Kühler, begged them to go to an "audition".

- We first thought it was a dance display. We had no idea that
a record company were looking for Abba Teens. We would sing a song, whatever, and dance. That was all. I sang "the Rose", says Dhani Lennevald.

Then there was another audition and they knew the truth.

- There were 20 people there. They said that four of us would be on a record of Abba covers. We were actually a little shocked.

How does it feel now?

- It's great. It's really great to do interviews, to practice dance steps for the concert and to sing all the songs.

- People are already looking at us in the street.

How did you react when "Mamma Mia" went number one on the Voxpop chart?

- I was awfully happy. It was great that us newcomers won with a margin of 70 points. Our video set us apart because it didn't allude to sex with short skirts and bums (?) and the such.

So you are taking a stand against those types of videos?

- No, but we are doing our thing so to speak, says Dhani Lennevald.
