A-Teens ready for beginning of school year
Now school starts again. Because of that we dressed up A-Teens in new nice school clothes.
Last fall they were four average teenagers. Now they're popstars. But despite tours, press conferences and writing autographs, they go back to
school next week.
They were handpicked at an audition at Lasse Kühler's dance school in November last year. In less than a year, they changed into popstars and during the summer their
schedule has been filled with concerts.
- It's incredible, Marie Serneholt, 16, says. Last fall we didn't know what it was all about. I thought we would dress up as and lip-synch to ABBA. It
turned out much better. This is really a dream.
They began as ABBA Teens, but when Benny Andersson didn't want the name to be used by the teenage-group, it was changed to A-Teens.
-But partially it was our own decision, Marie says. Now we can sing other songs than ABBA-songs in the future.
The four teenagers have been in the same dance class for many years. Now they basically meet each other daily and know each other very well. When
Sara Lumholdt, 15, reveals that she just got a boyfriend - the others spontaneously burst out singing "Ja må hon leva" (Which actually is a
Swedish birthdaysong. Claes' note). When you see each other as often as the gang does, it's difficult to keep secrets.
To A-Teens the summer has been intense and they haven't had more than three weeks of vacation.
-It was much needed, Dhani Lennevald, 15, says. We look dead in photos taken before the vacation.
But as a popstar it's difficult to completely have some time off.
- I was on Lanzarote and stayed in a hotel with many families with children, Sara says. Many of them came up and asked if we could sing karaoke together,
but it was actually a lot of fun and they were so cute so we sang "Mamma Mia". Even though the members of A-Teens probably would be able to work fulltime
with their music, all four of them will continue studying next school year.
-You don't enjoy to study but you miss it when you don't do it, says Amit Paul, 16, who this fall starts his first year in "gymnasiet" (upper
secondary school. Claes' note).
- Of course I can imagine committing myself to the music, says Marie, who also will start "gymnasiet". But school is also important. The classes are
fun, but it's hard to study before tests. Often you only study because of the grades. Of course you study for your own sake, but you don't often think
that you'll be able to use this when you get older.
But it probably won't be the same way it used to be when Marie, Sara, Dhani and Amit go back to school after the summer holidays.
- Of course it can't be just like it was before the summer holidays, Marie says. So much have happened.
- I usually tell my friends to let me know if they think I act like a diva, because I don't want to float up in the air, Sara says. I think you'll reach much further if you keep your feet on the ground.
