Benny Andersson: Change name ABBA Teens ABBA Teens have to change their name. To use ABBA as a part of their name and also turning one of the B's so their leaning against each other makes Benny Andersson see red. -ABBA is ABBA. What they are doing is something completely different, Benny Andersson says. Six months ago Dhani Lennevald, 15, Marie Serneholt, 16, Sarah Lumholdt, 15, and Amit Paul, 16, were four completely unknown youths. Now they're on their way to become stars by being members of ABBA Teens. Already in December their version of "Mamma Mia" was recorded, but wasn't released until May. Before it had been released, it had sold 15 000 copies. Today it has almost sold 90 000 copies. During the spring a completely new album with ABBA covers has been recorded and it will be released this fall. Next week they're going on a promotional tour to England. Then the rest of the world awaits. A big setback But ABBA Teens now suffer a big setback. Earlier there has been information that the old members of ABBA approved the name ABBA Teens - something that now turns out to be wrong. One of the brains behind the songs on which ABBA Teens career is built upon, Benny Andersson, has had enough. He thinks that their version of "Mamma Mia" is completely ok. But when the four youths use ABBA in their group-name and also turn one of the B's leaning against the other, they've gone too far. - We protect what we once upon a time created, Benny Andersson says to Dagens Nyheter. "ABBA is ABBA" -ABBA is ABBA. What they are doing is something completely different. ABBA Teens say that they still haven't heard about the name problem. But Ola Håkansson at the group's record company Stockholm Records knows of Benny Andersson's criticism and promises improvement. - The name will be changed. They won't be called that in the future. It was a mistake and we of course respect Benny's viewpoint, Ola Håkansson says to Dagens Nyheter. Now the group has to change their name - to what is up to the record company. They're thinking of A-Teens. Somebody at the English office came up with Ab fabs as in the TV-series "Absolutely fabulous". - It doesn't have to be a big problem with a name-change. It'll make it easier if they later want to record some other music, Ola Håkansson says. Written by Erik Pettersson Translation by ABBAMAILer Claes in Florida |
