Gustav Down Under!

Swedish ABBAMAILer Gustav Sandberg shocked ABBAMAIl's Graeme Read by paying a surprise visit to Australia! On Gustav's first Satrday in Oz, he visited Sydney Harbour to see the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. ABBAMAIL's Graeme Read & Grant Whittinghamalso took him for a little shopping too!

ABBAMAIL's Graeme Read with Gustav

I've known Gustav since he was 16 but I never thought I'd see him in my own home town.

Day Before You Came?

Martin Place, Sydney

Gustav is a snap-happy tourist. Here he is taking a shot of a building at Sydney's Martin Place.

First look: Gustav at Circular Quay

Gustav at Circular Quay - seeing the Sydney Opera House for the first time.

So, so sunny!

It was so sunny yesterday that Gustav was squinting a lot when we took photos. As you can see his face is bright red - he got sunburnt from Day 1 down under!

Gustav Butching up?

Gustav butching up for a ride to the Sydney beachside suburb of Manly? Well, not today but it is definitely on the "must see" lust while he's down under!

Graeme & Gustav

Hard to believe that Gustav has been an ABBAMAIL list member for 10 years! And that I first met him in August, 1997 in Stockholm. Now he's all grown up and on his first trip to "the other side of the world"

G & G - Grant and Gustav

It was a picture perfect day on Sydney Harbour and here are Grant & Gustav posing in front of the bridge.

Snap, snap, snap

Gustav has taken hundreds of photos and he's only been here 48 hours at this point!

Two Icons - Gustav & The Opera House

ABBAMAIL Icon and original member since 1997, Gustav Sandberg, with great Sydney icon, the Opera House.

Who would have imagined?

Even three days ago I would have sworn that we'd never see Gustav "down under" in Oz. I thought Gustav would be like most Europeans and never make the trip to Australia.

Strike a pose!

Gustav taking yet another shot of the opera house.

Girls on film!

Well one "big girl" at least! Gustav in front of one of the famous "sails" of the Sydney Opera House.

The city is a jungle, you better take care!

Well this city - Sydney, Australia - looks more fabulous than a jungle in this terrific shot.

Yes, it's real and I touched it

That's what Gustav can say when he goes home to Sweden - "I saw the Opera House and I actually touched it!!!'

Gustav just can't stop snapping our Opera House!

Around the other side

We walked to the other side of the Opera House for a different perspective of those famous "sails"

View from the Opera House

The back of the Opera House gives a panoramic view over Sydney Harbour and the North Shore - the other part of Sydney that you need to go over the bridge to reach

Gustav up to his old tricks on the stool?

Well, not quite a stool - more like a bollard! Gustav in front of one of the most recognisable buildings in the world.

Things go better with Coca-Cola!

Gustav at a cafe at Circular Quay, near Sydney's harbour. A nice lunch of a club sandwich and a Coke in a camp little glass bottle.

Gustav's Map of Life Down Under!

Here he is on a Sydney bus heading out of town after a big day looking at the sites. His trusty Sydney map is never far away - he negotiated Sydney's city streets with ease on his first day down under thanls to this map.

Boysonberry

Gustav was fascinated with the flavour "boysonberry" and so had a double scoop. It's his new favourite! Graeme had vanilla, but then again, people always say Graeme is "soooo vanilla!"

The Ice Cream Time

What do you think of Sydney, Gustav?

"I like it. Especially the ice cream time!"

Shopping!

Gustav visited a stack of Aussie record shops and book shops. Here he is outside of HMV's Broadway store

Waiting for a bus

Gustav isn't fond of Sydney buses - he hasn't had much luck with them since he arrived. Here, ABBAMAIL's Grant Whittingham and Gustav wait forever for a bus to Newtown.
