Neil Hopwood hits Sydney - 17 February 2008

South African ABBAMAILer Neil Hopwood visited Sydney, Australia for two weeks
in February. It was his first visit to Oz and he wanted to catch up with ABBAMAIL's
Graeme Read & Grant Whittingham and all the local fans in Sydney. These
shots are from Neil's first full day in Sydney. He spent it with Graeme & Grant
looking around the city, CD shopping, visiting some of the city's bars and also
going to the movies. It was a big first day!

This is the first of five galleries of photographs from Neil's visit. Use the navigation bar
below these shots to visit the rest of the galleries.

After a few days here, Neil wrote about being in Sydney on ABBAMAIL's internet mailing list....

"Australia is nothing at all like I expected Yes, it's true, I am very much here! Nothing at all like I expected and to say I'm having a thoroughly wonderful time is a major understatement!

This is the first free few minutes I've had since I arrived on Saturday afternoon to send in anything to ABBAMAIL about it. I've met a lot of really wonderful people and seen some amazing places since I arrived.

Graeme already gave the run down of what we did on Sunday and yes, I really did make those boys walk! So much so, that it turned into an excuse to become a 'pub-crawl', they just got too much exercise that day!

We took in a film as well, which was great and yes, I really did take a train ride back to where I had to be by myself. No big deal actually, guess you can't really get lost once you're put on the train and told where to get off.

Monday I was out early taking a ferry ride into the City and ended up getting off in Darling Harbour and strolling round there and visiting the Chinese Gardens which are beautiful and so lovely to be in, especially when you are in the middle of a metropolis like Sydney.

My friend and I ended up walking around and I played tourist-tourist for a while in the afternoon and then took a ferry back, under the harbour bridge and past the Opera House to where I'm staying.

Tuesday, unfortunately I was man down and spent the day in bed feeling sorry for myself. I'd gotten sunburnt on Monday and I guess with all the activities as well as a tummy bug, the euphoria of everything and a bit of jet-lag, it all caught up with me!

Naturally I took it easy on Wednesday, did some retail therapy and then presented myself at 5:30 at the Lewisham for a few toots. Had quite a few very good laughs! Hopefully there'll be plenty more on Saturday afternoon.

Today has been more sightseeing and buying boomerangs, fluffy koalas and kangaroos for all the ankle biters at home! At least that's done and out of the way.

Still have loads to see and do, so hopefully there'll be more to add in a short while. Graeme is extremely happy with a camera, so I have no doubt there'll be plenty more pictures added to the ABBAMAIL home page.
