Cover art - ABBA IN CONCERT on DVD
FAN REACTION TO ABBA IN CONCERT DVD

REVIEWS

Arghhh...its here!

And I've seen the packaging and it is stunning - absolutely stunning. I'd buy it even if it didn't have a DVD with it!

As you can see, the cover is stunning and so meaningful if you've been an ABBA fan for more than five minutes.

It is the original art for the 1979 concert tour staging, costumes and souvenir program. This design later became the logo for Polar Music International AB.

You can call them the Polar triangles or the ABBA icebergs but, whatever you call them, they are beautiful and I could kiss the feet of the person at Universal who decided on the DVD cover.

I have seen the booklet for the DVD and it blew my mind. Sure there are some great colour photos in there and yes, some of them haven't been seen before...but the real magic is the overall design of the booklet - it is innovative, exciting, classy and a little breathtaking.

Great liners notes by Carl Magnus Palm not to mention the able assistance from our own boy, ABBAMAIL's Ian Cole, the chief poof reader! Oh, was that a typo? ;-)  Two other ABBAMAILers are also credited with providing assistance - a wonderful affirmation of everything that ABBAMAIL has achieved in the last 7 years.

I also can't wait to see "Thank You For The Music" live - just because I've never seen it before - no-one has! "The Way Old Friends Do" appeared on the TV special 'ABBA WORDS & MUSIC" in some territories but not "Thank You......".

The DVD has been released in the UK/Europe and Australia so get your credit cards out, get your wallets at the ready.....

Amazon.com is accepting orders for the USA release.

This is one ABBA product that you can say you are proud to own. So much care has been taken with it that we can really say - thank you Universal Music - and seriously mean it!

And thanks to ABBA Consultant Carl Magnus Palm for his essential input into the project. He is the big cheese of the ABBA world and he makes it all happen for us.

NOTICE TO FANS:

There has been much grumbling and discontent about the fact that "In Concert" is the 1980 "ABBA on Tour" special "repackaged with 3 bonus tracks" (as one rather unkind fan described it).

It is important to note a few things:

1. What is on this DVD is "it" - there is no more. They did not film every song in the Wembley concerts. The extra bits they may have had of shortened songs were trashed after the final edit of the special was completed.

2. No, it is not a case of Björn & Benny vetoing another release of rare footage / songs - there just isn't anything that was kept. The DVD contains the whole kit and kaboodle!

3. Universal did attempt to find additional "bits" to add to the DVD - the guru Carl Magnus Palm asked ABBAMAILers if they knew of any footage etc. that could be used from around the world. Apparently this search was unsuccessful - although it did contribute to the delay in releasing the DVD somewhat.

4. The quality of the DVD is going to be much better than the VHS released many years ago - it has all been put through the digital washing machine and has come out looking and sounding very rosy indeed.

I hope this clears up any confusion over why the DVD is the way it is.
