What is ABBAMAIL

ABBAMAIL is an internet mailing list - ABBA fans from around the world send in emails to "the list" and these are distributed to all subscribers of the list. The emails are about ABBA news, views, ABBA historical events and memories, fan events and also the lives of ABBAMAIL subscribers themselves. ABBAMAIL is very much a community of ABBA fans. The ABBAMAIL internet mailing list is the heart and soul of all of ABBAMAIL's activities - most of the content of this website is derived from emails originally sent to the list.

What is the list fee for?

The ABBAMAIL list, website, newsletters, Forum, Chat Room etc. were previously funded by sales of merchandise in our webshop, allowing us to operate the mailing list free of charge for nine and a half years. Because of ABBA's record company, Universal Music in Sweden, stopping us from selling the products that ABBA fans really want, we now have a list subscrption fee to make sure that we have sufficient funds to keep ABBAMAIL operating.
 

How  often are posts to the list sent to me?

You have two choices - you can receive posts to the list instantly - that is, each email is distributed to you as soon as it is received - or by daily digest. With the daily digest version, you receive one big email per day that combines all the list posts together.
 

 
Do I have to post to the list regularly if I join?

No, sending in your own emails to the list is not compulsory. Of course we encourage everyone to participate in the discussion on the list.
 

 
What are the payment methods available?

If you live in Australia you can pay with Credit Card, PayPal, Cheque, Money Order or cash. If you live outside of Australia you can pay with Credit Card, PayPal, British cash, Euros cash, US cash or Australian cash. All cash payments must be notes (we do not accept coins as payment). Payments in British/Euro/US cash attract an additional charge to cover our bank's foreign exchange fee.
 

 
If I pay by credit card online, are my details secure?

Yes, our webshop uses a secure server that encrypts your data to the highest level. Your credit card and personal information is completely secure.
 

 
Can I pay for someone else's subscription?

Yes, you can. This is called a "Gift Subscription" However please note that the person you pay for is under the same obligations, terms, conditions and rules as everyone else on the list. Should they be removed from the list or should they unsubscribe themselves, no refund of the list fee you paid for them is payable.

You can use the Additional Information box  during the checkout process to let us know the other person's email address and name to be subscribed.

If you're paying by mail or fax, we have included fields on the forms that you must fill out to subscribe to let us know the name and email address of the person(s) being subscribed.

Is the fee refundable if I decide to leave the list?

No, any fee already paid for list subscription is not refundable in any circumstances.
 
 
What happens if I pay for 3/6 months in advance the list ceases to operate?

We have been operating for ten years. We have no intention to cease operating. We are committed to keep ABBAMAIL's internet mailing list as the #1 list for fans on the internet. That's why the fee has been introduced - to make sure we can continue to provide all of the services to ABBA fans that we have been providing for a decade. Obviously no-one can predict the future and if there are circumstances beyond our control that force the list to stop operating, we have no control over that. List fees are not refundable in any circumstance. All we can advise is that we continue to do everything we can to ensure the list keeps on doing what it does best.
 

 
If I chose a recurring subscription, paid every 3 months, what happens if I leave the list or am removed?

With the twelve month recurring subscription, your credit card is charged every three months. In this situation, the fee you paid for the current quarter would not be refunded. However no further charges would be made on your credit card.
 

 
If I chose a recurring subscription, paid every 3 months, what happens if my credit card expires prior to the end of the twelve month period?

We will contact you and find out your new expiry date. There's no need to go through the subscription process again.
 

 
How many email addresses can I be subscribed with?

Your list fee covers one email address.
 

 
Can I change the email address I am subscribed with?

Yes you can. You just write to ABBAMAIL Administration and we will change it for you.
 

 
What happens if I have trouble receiving emails from the list?

If there is a technical issue with you being able to receive the list's emails, we can offer to change your subscribed email address. Issues like Internet Service Provider firewalls, anti-spam and anti-virus policies, blacklists etc. can cause issues with emails. We cannot guarantee that your particular email address will always receive the list emails because of the many technical issues involved. There is, for example, always a problem with AOL email addresses being subscribed because of the way they allow their customers to notify any email address as being "spam" and therefore blocking all email from that server or address from reaching AOL addresses.
 

 
Can I suspend my subscription if I go on holiday/vacation?

We can unsubscribe you in this case for the period you are away so you stop receiving the mail. You just need to write to us. However your list fee is not suspended - administratively trying to keep track on this would be a nightmare.
 

 
Can I change from receiving individual emails to the digest version (and vice versa)?

Yes, you can still do this by writing to us at abbahq@zipworld.com.au
 

 
Can I still unsubscribe from the list at any time?

Yes, of course you can. As mentioned in other FAQ answers, list fees already paid are not refundable. But to unsubscribe you simply
follow the instructions we have provided. You should also write to ABBAMAIL Administration to advise that you are leaving so we can update our records.
 
 
How far in advance can I pay?

You can pay up to 6 months in advance. The subscription periods are 1 month, 3 months and 6 months (7 months for UK cash payments).

You can pay for a 12 month period where we deduct payments from your credit card in 4 quarterly installments.

You can also pay a quarterly payment by PayPal - PayPal takes your first payment immediately and then bills your list fee to your PayPal account every three months.
 

 
Why is the price for paying with UK/Euro/US cash more expensive?

We are charged an $8 fee by our bank every time we have to change foreign cash into Australian cash. We cannot absorb that cost when the monthly subscription fee itself is less than this.
 

 
What's the big deal with all the Terms & Conditions?

The Terms and Conditions may seem a little over the top but they are necessary since we are now charging to be part of the list. They are for the protection of us as the list owners and for the protection and integrity of the list itself. We've just tried to cover every eventuality and possibility in the Terms & Conditions.
 

 
How will I know when it is time to renew my subscription?

ABBAMAIL Administration will contact you ahead of time to remind you. We are looking into setting up a more efficient system than this but it will not be implemented for some time.
