PAUL CARTER'S BITS AND PIECES

The BBC Radio 2 presenter Steve Wright is reported to have said that Björn and Agnetha are to be interviewed on his program (on different occasions, I would think!) during April. The program is broadcast Monday to Friday from 1400 to 1700. I have contacted the program to see if they can give me any further details on this.

About the forthcoming Benny Anderssons Orkester CD, it is very interesting that one of the melodies has been around since 1979. It is highly likely that this is therefore an Andersson/Ulvaeus compsition. My suspicion is that it may the melody of the demo "Nämndöfjärden", recorded in December 1978 but never released or used since.

The track that has lyrics by Ylva Eggehorn is in fact "Kärlekens tid", the one that they were working on when Aftonbladet called into the studio. This song was originally recorded for the film "Sånger från andra våningen" in 2000 and is the wonderful choral piece that is used in the scene on the underground train.

And it is great that this recording is using Polar Studios, for the last time. So forget what I said before about Benny's September 2003 recording of "When All Is Said And Done" being the last song he recorded there...

Finally, at this link, www.aftonbladet.se/ettor/webb/29_normal.html you can watch a clip of Gene Simmonds from Kiss discussing his admiration for ABBA and "Fernando". You will need to go down the page and click on the link titled 'Jag är en stort ABBA fan'.

MED BLAGULA OGON/ANDERS HANSER

Further update on Anders Hanser's new show about Sweden. Med Blagula Ogon will be shown at midnight on July 9, outdoors at Dalhalla on a giant screen 26 metres wide.

The music is by Benny and is edited from all his CDs (not specifically written for the show). The narration is done by Max von Sydow. It will be in Swedish, however the idea is to eventually have it in English as well.

TWO AGNETHA CD SINGLES FOR UK

Agnetha's IF I THOUGHT YOU'D EVER CHANGE YOUR MIND will be released on two CD singles in the UK to include the fabulous Almighty mixes:

CD1:
1. If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind
2. If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind [Blue Mix - Acoustic Piano Version]
CD2:
1. If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind*
2. If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind [Almighty Mix]
3. If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind [Almighty Dub]

(WEA375CD)

*I believe that track one on CD2 is actually a radio edit of the Almighty mix, which should be good for airplay. Plus everyone has to buy two copies of the single, adding to sales!

The reason the mix was first played at the Vauxhall Tavern in London is that Andy from Almighty is apparently one of the DJs there.

ANDERS NUNSTEDT ON AGNETHA'S NEW ALBUM

In today's Expressen, the critic Anders Nunstedt writes about Agnetha's new album. Here's my translation.

--------------

Anders Nunstedt: Mamma mia, Agnetha sounds like a musical

In three weeks the comeback happens. Then Agnetha Fältskog breaks seventeen years of silence with the album "My colouring book". But it doesn't sound particularly colourful.

Yesterday Expressen revealed the sound of Abba-Agnetha's coming CD. A CD consisting of 13 personal favourites - covers of songs from the 1960s that has colored her career in one way or another. Bearing in mind that Agnetha Fältskog must reasonably love these pop classics with all her heart, the impression is a bit pale.

Not completely colourless, her voice is good and the arrangements are daring since they're so totally not influenced by the sound of today.

Madonna, Beyoncé, Kylie and Britney don't seem to have influenced Agnetha at all.

"My colouring book" is recorded in the classic Atlantis studio and has a nostalgic shimmer, not only because the songs were composed 30-40 years ago but also because they're performed by a live band with an honorable string orchestra to back them up.

But, the songs that I've heard aren't earthshattering. But maybe there's nothing strange about that.

Abba lined up classics after classics, I don't think I need to mention any titles, but Agnetha Fältskog's solo career contains few contributions to the history of pop.

Five years ago a "greatest hits"-collection was released. "The heat is on", "I won't let you go" and "Wrap your arms around me" are a few well-known tracks. But classics?

If there's anything that can be said about "My colouring book", it is that it's not only Abba that have become a musical. Abba-Agnetha has also become one.

Mamma mia - in songs as "Sometimes when I'm dreaming" and "A fool am I" she sounds like a complete Broadway production.

ABBA WILL NEVER PERFORM AGAIN - FULL TRANSLATION

ABBA will never perform again

Aftonbladet followed Benny Andersson during a day in the studio

Lots of people get excited about the fact that it's 30 years since ABBA won Eurovision Song Contest with Waterloo. Not Benny Andersson. He is writing and playing new things. Aftonbladet followed Benny Andersson Orkester to the studio when the new CD is taking shape.

We are at the Polar Studios at Kungsholmen in Stockholm. Today the orchestra will record the background.

- This won't sound good, says Kalle Moreaus.

What? Well, Orsa Spelmän has been equipped with mandolins. Have they ever played the mandolin? No.

- It's the same thing as violin! says Perra Moreaus.

But the rest of the day the Orsa people practise how to play it to get the right trembling sound for the background.

Sometimes it sounds like a greek party when the orchestra plays, and in particular when the tempo rises as if Zorba danced in the studio.

The 6th of April it's 30 years since the Brighton win and it's five years since "Mamma Mia!" had its worldwide première. The musical is is still being played day after day in a dozen of places all around the world. Benny Andersson is going to the celebration gala in London. Probably.

Never more ABBA

- The thing that will make me not going to London is that it's such an excitement about ABBA, and wrong rumours about a reunion. We are four people who are doing different things now. We broke up over 20 years ago, and won't perform again together.

Already before summer the new record will be released. Benny Anderssons Orkester has recorded 14 songs. If all of them fits on the record is left to be seen. But clear is though that there will be a tour this summer.

First the traditional performance at Skansen on the 6th of August and after that there will be dance in both Helsingborg and Gothenburg. Hopefully there will also be a possibility to find three good places for dancing up north.

- We will bring our own dancing place, says Benny Andersson.

The new CD contains the same sort of wild-grown music that was on BAO's first record that was released in 2001.

- We won't play pop, says Benny Andersson. Our collaboration means that we will play folk music. And dance orchestra. But there is a wider choice of material on this new record.

Most of it is new-written, but a melody has been there ever since 1979. Five of the songs will be sung by Helen Sjöholm. Three of them have lyrics by Björn Ulvaeus, one by Peter Dalle ("Skenbart") and one with words by Ylva Eggehorn.

The song they put the final touches on today is "Kärlekns tid".

But there is a problem. The final part of the song has a choir part that was recorded several years ago. Helen Sjöholm is going to sing the other half of the song and prefers to do it a half-tone lower. So now the orchestra is going to record the background and Benny Andersson find a way to make it end up a
half-tone higher before the choir starts singing.

He plays the song over and over again and tests several different transitions on the Polar-studio's piano. Benny talks with the arranger Göran Arnberg. After some moments of composing the problem has been soloved and a new melody is born.

Sjöholm sings

- This is the fun thing with the boss, says Pär Grebäcken who plays the clarinet and lots of other instruments. It never ends, he just keeps changing and improving all the time.

Take after take is being done on "Kärlkens tid". It slowly takes shape. When everything is fitted rightly, Helen Sjöholm comes to the studio and tests the lyrics.

- This is going to sound nice, says Benny Andersson.

Yep, Kalle Moreaus was wrong. It didn't sound shit.

BENNY MAY NOT GO TO LONDON

The headline reads - "ABBA WILL NEVER PERFORM TOGETHER AGAIN."

It's a quote from Benny.

Basically, Aftonbladet spent a day in the studio with Benny and BAO. Polar Studios, since they haven't closed yet.

Benny is saying that perhaps he won't even go to London for the 30th anniversary.

"We are four people doing other things now. We broke up over 20 years ago and are not thinking of performing again."

14 songs have been recorded for the new BAO album. Most of them newly-written but the melody of one has been around since 1979. The album will contain the same sort of mix of music as the first one. Helen Sjöholm has sung five songs. Three of them have lyrics by Björn, one by Peter Dalle ("Skenbart") and one by Ylva Eggehorn.

The song being worked on that day is "Kärlekens tid".

The group will probably tour this summer and the album may be out before the summer.

EXPRESSEN ON AGNETHA'S NEW ALBUM

This is how Agnetha's new songs sound

The 21th of April Agnetha Fältskog's new album is being released. The ABBA-star's first in 17 years. Expressen is the first newspaper to listen to the comeback.

When ABBA broke up in the beginning of the 80s Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad commenced their solo careers. The ABBAs never reached the same success on their own, but thanks to their earlier popularity the records though did good abroad.

Old covers

This year it's 17 years since Agnetha Fältskog's latest record Peter Cetera-produced "I Stand Alone". The ABBA-singer's new album consists of 13 covers, songs that mostly are from the period before ABBA was formed. A collection of Agnetha-favourites that has made impression on her career in one way or another.

Not ABBA

The record is produced by Agnetha together with Anders Neglin and Dan Strömqvist. The style is traditional, but far from the ABBA-sound. This is how the tracks that are ready sound:

A fool am I
A quite real musical song, that brings the thoughts to an almost as shy and forgotten star, Barbara Streisand, is the first song on the album. It's grandiose and romantic, but honestly has the same sound as an old Julio Iglesias-song.

If I thought youd ever change your mind
Cilla Black's old 60s-hit reminds me of the feeling in Mariah Carey's "Without you" mixed with the musical star Sarah Brightman's ballads with a majority of strings. If you like that type of set to music Harlequin-romance you won't be disappointed. Sounds better in its context than as a standalone single.

Sometimes when I'm dreaming
A tranquil sleeping pill - earlier performed by among others Art Garfunkel - and seems to be arranged to bring forward Agnehta's voice, which still has a very special character but in this song where it's left almost naked it's almost a bit too thin. A part of the force seems to have disappeared during the long break.

Love me with all your heart
Strikingly arranged *tryckare* [anyone can translated this one for me? can't think of the right word, and can't find it in any dictionnary either :-P] - it's clear on this one that Agnetha has been accompanied by a whole orchestra during the recordings - that brings the thoughts more to ABBA's musical inspired songs but also to "Weeping Willows" that overdosed Orbinson, Sinatra and Elvis in the beginning of their career.

When you walk in the room
Jackie de Shannons old hit unexpectedly ends "My Colouring Book". Not that any song choices have been given in advance, but because that this standard cover doesn't really remind us of the music Agnetha has sung with ABBA or as a solo artist. It's OK, though she doesn't bring anything new to this song.

AGNETHA MAKES DOCO TO PROMOTE NEW ALBUM

FROM EXPRESSEN:

Abba-star does a documentary - about herself

Agnetha Fältskog is doing a film - about herself.

This week-end the secret recordings commenced in the central parts of Stockholm. At the same time there are reports that the star will go underground.

- According to what I know she won't be doing any interviews, says the manager Staffan Lindé.

The world star's comeback is hot news in the record business. But Agnetha Fältskog herself doesn't say anything. A rumour has it that she won't even promote her new album. Staffan Lindé at Agnetha Fältskog Produktion confirms the rumour.

- I don't know what Warner has agreed with her upon, but as far as I know she won't be doing any interviews, he says.

Secret documentary

The star has a plan of her own.

Expressen can today reveal that the singer has started a top secret project with a documentary about herself and the album. The recording started off this week-end in a music studio in Stockholm.

- It's a 30 minutes TV-special where she talks about the album and the recordings, says Helene Wigren at Warner Music.

The recordings will continue for another three weeks.

- They will also be shots taken in the city. Exactly all enviroments and interiors aren't decided upon yet. The singer who has been called the new Greta Garbo - has total control over the whole production.

- We have recieved a couple of questions about her doing the programme but it was Agnetha herself who decided to do it, explains Helen.

It's not decided yet which channels the documentry will be showed on. But the intrest is huge.

- A couple of countries are intrested in it. Where it will end up in Sweden isn't known yet.

Ready this spring

The TV-film will be ready short after the album "My Colouring Book" is released, the 19-21th of April. But according to the record company's spokesmen they assure that Agnetha's film won't replace all other promotion.

- No, she will be doing a couple of things in the future. It isn't decided what yet, says Helene Wigren.

GNETHA WON'T GO TO LONDON

FROM EXPRESSEN:

There won't be any ABBA comeback in London. Reason:
Agnetha Fältskog is fed up with the group.

- She loves the ABBA music and thinks it's great, but feels done with it, says manager Staffan Lindé.

6th of April the musical "Mamma Mia" has its five years anniversary in London. The same day 30 years ago ABBA won Eurovision song Contest with "Waterloo".

Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson will be there. The arrangers tried to convince Anni-Frid Lyngstad Reuss and Agnetha Fältskog to come. A new picture of the group together would be invaluable when it comes to promotion.

But the project looks like it's falling apart.

According to the singer's closest man it's not fear of flying or fear of being stalked that stops Agnetha Fältskog from travelling to London.

- I've offered to personally to drive her to London, but if you want my tip she won't be there, says Staffan Lindé.

He isn't aware of the plans that Agnetha will be at the British talk show "Parkinson".

But Helene Wigren at Warner Music sounds optimistic:

- We're working on it. But we have discussions with a couple of others too, she says to Expressen.

AGNETHA WANTS OUT??????????????????

ABBAMAIL has received the following report - we cannot vouch for its authenticity but due to the current situation with Agnetha, we feel we have to report it as at least a possibility:

"I found out yesterday that Agnetha has pulled out of the project.

A friend from Virgin phoned to say that Warner are reviewing the strategy because she has refused to do TV, interviews and does not want the product released.

To say it is late in the day is an understatement. The album has been barcoded for distribution and retail orders secured.

The reason from Warner (still unofficial) is of another stalker. Rumours of panic attacks etc abound of Agnetha having major panic attacks etc as the promo campaign got underway.

Thom"

BENNY'S FAREWELL TO POLAR STUDIOS

It's very sad, yet very appropriate that one of the last projects to be recorded at Polar Studios was an ABBA-related one. Even more so when one of those songs recorded was a beautiful ballad version of "When All Is Said And Done" by Benny and Viktoria Tolstoy, which lyrically, could almost be Benny's farewell to the once great studio, recorded during the first few days of September 2003 and included on Nils Landgren's "Funky ABBA" album, released on 24 March.

I have been listening to this recording this evening, and it's quite moving. Just Benny on the piano and Viktoria's attractive voice. One of ABBA's best songs, certainly lyrically, and presented here in a different and reflective way.

The CD (digipack style) also contains a photo of Viktoria and Benny at one of the studio desks, and a picture of the two of them with Nils Landgren, with the famous blue background just visible in the background. The last time that an ABBA member will be pictured there, I suppose.

This recording really stands alone and has little in common with the rest of the album, save for being mixed as part of the same project, though Viktoria also sings on "Summer Night City". I am not too keen on the rest of the album, which is ABBA's music presented in a lounge-jazz style, but that's simply because I'm not really into that type of music. It's certainly an attempt to do something radically different with cover versions, which is good to see though.

And something else that no-one has mentioned is that Benny also plays on son Ludvig's album too!

MSN UK HAS AGNETHA SONG AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD

I'm now logging on daily to the MSN UK Entertainment site where they've posted Agnetha's single for digital download at a cost of 75 pence. Well, today, the single is their #1 Top Recommended track! It's great to see this - and the red cover is immediately noticeable when you load the main page - you're drawn right to it - brilliant!

I guess the downside to having this pre-release is that these sales will take away from the 'big bang' sales for the first week to get a high chart position if those that purchase it online don't buy the single in the first week of release. I know I will be buying it, but not sure of the general public. The upside is that it really leaves you wanting MORE - so hopefully these people will by the album (or at least listen to it) when it's released.

Loving the single even more (if that's possible) now that I've heard it in CD quality!!

EARLY AGNETHA SURPRISE FOR DUTCH FANS

The Dutch single release of IF I THOUGHT YOU'D EVER CHANGE YOUR MIND by Agnetha has been released in shops prior to the official release date:

ABBAMAILer Robert Verbeek tells us:

I just bought the Agnetha single. I bought it at the free Record Shop store in Arnhem, the Netherlands. It's cheap at Euro 4.99

It's not bad. The blue remix sounds guite good. The artwork is not spectacular. Just a cardboard sleeve with the well know front cover. The back of the sleeve is plain red with white song titles and the rest of the text in black. No picture at all there.

The actual CD is completely and utterly boring (artwork wise). It's plain white with grey lettering which is difficult to read.

==============

While ABBAMAILer Lex Corbach tells us...

To my surprise Agnetha's new single has been released TODAY! I work in a record shop and I have it here, and have sold it numerous times today! Whoohoo, I am so enthusiastic, playing it loud now, it sounds amazing if you've gotten used to listening to the downloads from several radio stations.

The "Blue Remix" begins with one tone coming from a synthesiser, this is the only sound, together with her voice, if you hear that for the first time...Wow! When the refrain is suppost to start, all you hear if 'If I thought, thought thought thought....echo....' and it sounds like she's singing it through a telephone. Really nice. Not hard to imagine how an uptempo remix is going to sound like if you've heard it, all it needs is a drum. The second version is 2.55 minutes short, because there's no orchestra and the songlines continue to come without instrumental breaks.

AFTONBLADET: AGNETHA'S LIFE IS IN DANGER

"Agnetha's life is in danger"

Agressive man called with new threats towards the ABBA-star

BBC are worried Agnetha can't participate in their programme.

At the same time new info is in the English press that a new man is threatening the star.

In the English newspaper Evening Standard a large article about the former ABBA-member was published yesterday. In that it was said that Agnetha now will stop all promotion of the new record "My Colouring Book".

This because of Brita Åhman, the co-author of "Som Jag Är", has received telephone threats towards the star. Brita Åhman confirms for Aftonbladet that a person has been calling her: I've received several telephone calls, but this man was aggresive and told me that her life was in danger.

Did you get the impression that he himself was the threat?

No, it didn't seem like that. He asked me to drive to Ekerö to warn Agnetha.

Ringde skivbolaget

Brita Åhman says that the man sounded young and that he probably was from Norrland.

- He didn't threaten Agnetha Fältskog about killing her, but he was as I said earlier aggressive. I thought I'd better inform the record company. But they didn't take very much notice about the the thing and never phoned back to me, despite the fact that I told them that this was about Agnetha's security. I'm
sure Agnetha hasn't even been informed that this has happened, says Brita Åhman.

But at the record company Warner Music the information from Brita hasn't gone through. And that all promotion has been stopped is said not to be denied.

- Absoutely not. We will do a couple of things in the fortcoming weeks, but we haven't decided what to do yet, says Jonas Siljemark, MD for Warner Music Scandinavia.

Will you act based upon these phone calls Brita Åhman has recieved?

- We won't act until we've heard it ourselves. This is second hand information we get now, says Siljemark.

BBC got in touch

In England the article got a lot of attention. At the TV-company BBC they tried to reach Agnetha's Swedish contacts. Nothing is ready yet, but there are plans for Agnetha to perform on the popular talk show "Parkinson" during spring.

- Beacause of the article in Evening Standard we won't to find out whether Agnetha will participate in the show or not. I haven't reached anyone at the record company today, but I hope to get an answer tomorrow, says a spokesman.

EVENING STANDARD ARTICLE ON AGNETHA

ABBAMAIL advises readers to be cautious when reading the following article. A healthy skepticism is always advisable with articles like this:

Will Agnetha ever return?
By Rick Hewett
25 March 2004

The shutters on the fortresslike villa on the remote island of Ekero are locked shut once again, while the front gate is guarded by a bank of high-tech security cameras. It has been here, in this windswept Swedish outpost, that Agnetha F0ltskog, the most enigmatic and misunderstood member of Seventies supergroup Abba, has lived as a virtual recluse for almost two decades, hiding from a world that she had learned to fear.

"I hated the fame. It was horrible. It was fever. It was hysteria," she once said. "Hiding away was a way for me to come to terms with everything and slowly become well again. Silence has been a necessity."

Yet this was meant to be the week that Agnetha, who is estimated to be worth around £20 million, announced her return to an expectant pop world and emerge from her self-imposed exile, embarking on a series of high-profile interviews to reveal to the world just what she's been doing these past years.

In what has been billed as the biggest musical comeback in 20 years, the bright, blonde face of Abba has spent months putting together a new solo album. But now the hype has been put on hold.

All print and TV interviews this week - including a Saturday appearance on Parkinson - have been cancelled. There will be no personal appearances, no signings, no Agnetha.

Warner Music - reportedly bewildered, furious and likely to be severely out of pocket - insists there will still be "limited" publicity of a yet unspecified kind and are still trying to woo her back into the limelight. But today the company finds itself with a comeback album without a comeback kid.

The 53-year-old Swedish star insisted that she would fund My Colouring Book, a selection of 1960s covers, from her own fortune to ensure control of the enterprise and her own privacy.

A deal was struck last year with Warner. A single, If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind - originally a hit for Cilla Black in 1969 - received fulsome airplay on the radio. A massive marketing and promotional campaign was put in place for the album release in a few weeks' time, an apparent sign that the depression and phobias that had accelerated Agnetha's reclusiveness were finally behind her. But then, without warning a week ago, Agnetha went to ground.

So why is she risking commercial suicide, failing to support her own very personal project a full 30 years after Abba's first No 1 hit with Waterloo, and 17 years after the critical panning of her last solo album destroyed her confidence? Brita Ahman thinks she knows why.

Ahman, once Faltskog's closest friend and biographer, says in recent weeks the singer has been made aware she is being stalked by an obsessed fan. The news has left her terrified.

It has brought back terrible memories of the most disturbing episode in her life when, in 1997, she began an affair with Gert van der Graaf, an obsessed Dutch fan 16 years her junior who spent months desperately courting her. After Agnetha ended the relationship, Graaf, a forklift truck driver she had met one day while walking near her home, stalked and terrorised her until she was too afraid to leave her home.

Agnetha, always reclusive after Abba broke up, has rarely been seen in public since the Graaf affair. Many simply refer to her as Garbo Mark 2. She still lives alone and suffers from a fear of heights, crowds, flying and open spaces. When she does venture out she hides her face behind dark glasses and refuses to speak to fans. She is also now a grandmother, and news of the new stalker has made her even more cautious.

"Agnetha has become convinced this person is a threat to her and her family," Brita says. "This particular fan contacted me after I wrote an article about Agnetha for a Swedish paper and he sounded quite disturbed, saying things like Agnetha is the 'anti-Christ'.

"He also claimed her life was in danger. Whether these were empty threats or not they have to be taken seriously, which is why I told her record company. This kind of thing is obviously very worrying but for someone like Agnetha, it is terrifying and obviously she can't cope with it psychologically."

Brita shakes her head, aware that it is not just Agnetha's peace of mind that is at stake. " The record is doomed to fail without her promoting it properly," she says. " It's as much about her as it is about the music." She is not, however, surprised at what has happened.

" Over the years, Agnetha has been quite a troubled person who has always found fame hard to deal with," Brita continues. "She went into hiding almost 20 years ago because she could not cope with the celebrity life, so I was very surprised at her decision to do another album.

"I advised her to go into therapy after the divorce from her second husband 11 years ago, which she did. As I see it, she didn't stay in therapy for long enough and didn't really come to terms with the issues troubling her. Essentially she has dipped her toe back into the whole celebrity thing and suddenly found it scares her."

For almost two decades, the former Abba star has lived as a virtual recluse. Her retreat into a hermit-like existence was all the more surprising for Abba fans who had always regarded Agnetha - and her counterpart Anni-Frid Lyngstad - as smiley, sunny totty, a bright and highly sought-after disco voice in a pin-up's body, sewn up in skintight Spandex. The two girls and their husbands, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, the musical geniuses who wrote and played the songs, seemed to revel in the phenomenon dubbed Abbamania.

Abba dominated the charts throughout the 1970s with songs like Mamma Mia!, Dancing Queen and The Winner Takes It All. The group sold more than 350 million albums - at one point sales in communist Eastern Europe were so high they had to accept payment in oil because countries such as Poland were running out of foreign currency. But no one realised how F0ltskog, only 22 when the band began, suffered under the pressures of fame.

She was born in the small town of Jonkoping in April 1950. From an early age she loved music and became an accomplished singer at school. As Abba's fame grew, though, Agnetha's problems began. She dreaded the arduous touring and was often racked with stage fright. "Nobody who has experienced a shouting, boiling and hysterical crowd can fail to feel fear," she wrote in her autobiography, As I Am. Behind her flashbulb smile, Agnetha apparently longed to be an ordinary housewife and mother to her two children with Ulvaeus.

She got only part of her wish. In 1981, the couple's 10-year marriage collapsed and, when the band split two years later, Agnetha retreated to her secluded 10-bedroom mansion and turned her back on music. In 1990 she married surgeon and karate expert Tomas Sonnenfeld. That lasted three years and little has been heard of her since.

The one thing she craved was seclusion. Why, then, did she feel the need to put herself in the public eye again?

Ronnie Olafsson, showbiz editor of Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet, says: "I guess she wants to prove to herself - and the rest of us - that she can still do it.''

The album itself, with its cover versions of favourite tunes, is another indicator of how she treasures her privacy. Agnetha recently said of her new record: "The musical impressions from my teens are in my blood. It has a strong hold on me. I feel deeply for these songs."

But those close to her know she would rather focus on the feelings of other songwriters than her own. As Brita says: "She is happy to praise other singers, explore their work and do it well but there is nothing of herself in this record. These are not her words or her feelings."

Refusing to promote her album is likely to turn a potentially lucrative comeback into a commercial disaster. It may also leave the original Dancing Queen more isolated than ever.

BJÖRN INTERVIEW - ABBA WILL NEVER REFORM

"As a group we will never more perform"

In a video film by Calle Åstrand the ABBA-members though shows up as puppets.

- It's just speculations and much of it hasn't been true.

The lsat time it has several times been speculated about the members in the group ABBA's doings and even a reunion.

"According to secure sources" it is but it's better to ask the Västervik son Björn Ulvaeus himself.

- As a group we will never reform again, says Björn Ulvaeus.

It's 30 years ago since ABBA won with Waterloo at Eurovsion Song Contest in Brighton. The date was 6th of April.

- What happens the 6th of April is that it's five years since the musical Mamma Mia! had its premiÈre in London.

- We change theatres and the new address is instead the theatre Prince of Wales, says Björn Ulvaeus.

Prince Charles will be there and ABBA will be celebrated.

Will you be there all four of you?

- I can't answer that question honestly, but I don't think so. At least me and Benny will be there.

Anni-frid Lyngstad is supposed to come. But that's unsure though.

A video film is right now being recorded and it has several ABBA-connections.

- I haven't been involved in the plans. I only know that Hansi's (of
Hootenanny singers, Robin's remark) son Calle Åstrand has been working on something so it will be a surprise, says Björn Ulvaeus.

Calle Åstrand, who was responsible for Håkan Bråkan which was shown this winter, records a film in Stockholm and in London.

The ABBA-figures will be in the shape of puppets. Like Kermit and the other classical Muppets.

In the video film there will also be ABBA-music.

Première for the video film is at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul the 15th of May.

AGNETHA'S AUSSIE INTERVIEW

I've had word from an Agnetha fan here on the Gold Coast who has contacts with Cameron Adams who is the main music journalist at the Herald-Sun in Melbourne. Apparently Cameron will be doing the only press interview with Agnetha for Australia. Cameron Adams is a big pop music fan and writes pretty good articles, so this could be good. His articles are printed in more than just the Herald-Sun, too.

PRINCE CHARLES & ABBA: AFTONBLADET TRANSLATION

Here's a translation of the article in today's Aftonbladet.

-------------

Prince Charles honours ABBA with a prize

...and Mick Jagger has a role in the film which will be shown in Istanbul

ABBA will receive a special prize from Prince Charles in London - and participate in Eurovision Song Contest with Mick Jagger. No, you're not dreaming. Everything is planned and ready.

Aftonbladet has in several articles written about the top secret plan before
ABBA's 30th anniversary of the victory in ESC with "Waterloo".

It's the first time in decades that Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny
Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad participate in a joint project of their own.

Tribute film

A newly filmed tribute film for the group that will be shown at ESC in Istanbul on the 15th of May.

Behind the secret project is among others the director Carl Åstrand, known
for SVT's (Swedish Television's) comedy series "Kenny Starfighter" and last
year's Christmas TV-calendar series "Håkan Bråkan", says a source with
insight on the plans.

And today Aftonbladet can reveal the content that has been filmed already.

ABBA as puppets

The story is about four muppets looking like ABBA on a quest for a recording
contract. They go to a big record company where they get to meet the boss.
And he is played by none other than the Rolling Stones-star Mick Jagger.

Aftonbladet's reliable source also says that the real ABBA-members have
smaller parts in the film - as assistants to the record company director
Jagger.

- Among other things Benny Andersson serves coffee, Agnetha is a secretary
and Björn is some kind of consultant, says the source.

"Gimme!, Gimme!, Gimme!", "Dancing Queen" and "Take A Chance On Me" are a few of ABBA's hits that can be heard in the film - but not performed by ABBA themselves.

Double jubilee

But already in two weeks the members of ABBA reunite in London. The occasion is a double jubilee.

On the 6th of April it'll be exactly 30 years since ABBA won ESC in Brighton
and exactly five years since the successful musical "Mamma Mia!" premiered.
It'll be celebrated with a party and gala in the English capital.

Furthermore, Aftonbladet's sources state that ABBA will receive a special
prize from Prince Charles for their life's work.

According to sources in the ABBA-camp, all members have accepted the
invitation - except Agnetha Fältskog.

Is very afraid of flying

The reason is solely her talked about fear of flying. But there's a good chance that Agnetha will reconsider her decision.

- She has left an opening in her schedule, because she would really like to
be there.

- It all depends on how she'll feel that day, says a person close to Agnetha.

People: Take a chance on seeing Agnetha

By Maureen Coleman

STAR spotters attending the Mamma Mia Thank You for the Music Tour when it
hits Ireland later this year may just spot a very familiar face in the audience.

For Abba's Agnetha Faltskog has been asked along to the Irish leg of the tour and has agreed to accept the invitation.

The blonde singer, who was the subject of many a schoolboy's fantasy in the
1970s, is hoping to resurrect her career with the release of an album.

Mamma Mia concert show producer Mike Taylor said: "Agnetha is famous for
living a reclusive lifestyle on her own island in Sweden. But with the release of her first album in 17 years at the time of our Ireland dates, Agnetha is set to come out of hiding.

"We've been tipped off that there's every chance she'll take up our invitation to come and see the Mamma Mia Thank You For The Music Tour when it visits the Emerald Isle in May."

Mamma Mia comes to the Waterfront Hall on Friday, May 14.

AGNETHA BACKING VOCALISTS

Here is information from Expressen about Agnetha's new album and Linda's participation:

Agnetha Fältskog sings with her daughter - again

Agnetha Fältskog has had help from her daughter on her new album "My Colouring Book". Linda Ulvaeus makes her comeback as an artist.

In April Agnetha Fältskog releases her new album. It will be nostalgic for her fans. Linda Ulvaeus, daughter of Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog, sings in the choir on three songs.

Today Linda Ulvaeus is an actress. But mother and daughter have previously
recorded together on a Christmas album, "Nu tändas tusen juleljus".

The other backing vocalists on the new album are also more or less well-known. The musical artist Sarah Dawn Finer, jazz singer Johanna Nyström, vocalist Patrik Lundström and musician Carl-Magnus "C-M" Carlsson are amongst the names.

Lasse Wellander from ABBA's old backing band plays guitar on several songs.

HEP STARS CELEBRATE 40TH ANNIVERSARY!

HEP STARS PRESS RELEASE

New double-CD, new single, new book

Hep Stars is one of Sweden's most popular pop bands throughout the years,
and was in a class of their own Sweden's best selling and most successful
60s band.

This year Hep Stars turn 40 and we're celebrating it with the hit packed
double album CADILLAC MADNESS: 40 YEARS ? 40 HITS ? 964-2004. The album is released on the 31st of March and contains all the hit singles, the best album tracks and two recently recorded songs! The new single "Love Is Coming Back", written by Lasse Andersson and Danne Attlerud, is included on the new double album which ends with "Cadillac 2004", a new recording of Hep Stars' breakthrough classic.

Hep Stars have had a long string of songs on Tio i Topp, the sales charts
and Svensktoppen, oncluding number 1s such as "Cadillac", "Farmer John", "I
natt jag dr?mde", "Sunny Girl", "Wedding" and "Malaika". It was in Hep Stars
that Benny Andersson started his successful songwriting career. The first
hit Benny composed was "No Response", which of course is on the new double
album and also the first song Benny Andersson and Bj?rn Ulvaeus composed
together, "Isn't It Easy To Say".

"I natt jag dr?mde" sold close to 300.000 copies, and is one of Sweden's
most sold singles throughout the years. Hep Stars were successful far
outside Sweden's borders - in USA the live album "On Stage" from 1965 is
often described as one of the best pop/garage albums from the 60s.

SvT's Musikbyr?n recently paid attention to the group's film adventure Hep
Stars i Afrika with a long and funny report, and in April the book about Hep
Stars' fantastic career will be released by Premium F?rlag.

ABBA GO TURKISH ;-)

I've just had the interesting Turkish delight of watching Melodifestivalen on the net.

If anyone else wants to, just go to http://svt.se/svt/jsp/Crosslink.jsp?d=11449 then click on "Lyssna på utslagna bidrag" and then in the pop up box click on "Bidrag till final" then click on "send sandningen 2h".

You can also watch the individual songs below. If you want to see the Turkish ABBA tribute, scroll the little bar across to about 2cm before the end.

There is a little boy opening a book and then suddenly all these Turkish dancers come out and they do, amongst others, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!, The Winner Takes It All, Voulez-Vous, Summer Night City, Lay All Your Love On Me and Kisses of Fire (a lot of it!).

It's...interesting.

A BIT MORE ON BENNY & ANDERS PROJECT

Benny Andersson has according to Swedish press contributed with music to a
film with still pictures by Anders Hanser. The article doesn't say if it's
new material, so that remains to be seen. Anders Hanser (former husband of Görel Hanser and ABBA's official photographer from 79 onwards) has been photographing Sweden and has now finished the film "Med Blågula Ögon". The "film" will be shown in Orsa.

AGNETHA UK PROMOTION - A RUMOUR OR FACT?

Agnetha Fältskog

'If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind'

The single released April 12th on WEA.

Abba legend Agnetha Fältskog releases 'If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your
Mind' on April 12th, the first single to be taken from her eagerly
anticipated album 'My Colouring Book' which follows on April 19th.

'If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind' is evocative of the best of Abba
with Agnetha adding her own inimitable touch to mark a glorious comeback.
'If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind' was composed by John Cameron and was originally a hit for Cilla Black in 1969.

"This is very much a song that represents the album but also a song which
has been a standout throughout the recordings. We decided early on that this
was going to be the first single, even if with a collection like this there is no shortage of potential singles. It has a long and telling title," Agnetha says laughing, "and I think it is the most beautiful song."

Agnetha started a personal research project four years ago in which she
meticulously researched the music of the sixties, reading books, checking
charts and collecting large quantities of rare records and re-issues. In due
course, this became the central focus of 'My Colouring Book' with other
songs set to appear including 'When You Walk In The Room' (written by Jackie
de Shannon) and 'Sometimes When I'm Dreaming' (written by Mike Batt).

'My Colouring Book' was recorded at Stockholm's legendary Atlantis Studios,
where Abba's first recordings were made thirty years ago.

Agnetha will be based in London for two weeks for promotion to coincide with
the album launch and will also be appearing on a number of key TV shows
including Parkinson, GMTV, Richard And Judy and This Morning to name just a
few. The release of 'My Colouring Book' comes at a time when Abba revival is
becoming a phenomenon with the success of the musical 'Mamma Mia' and also
the 30th anniversary of Abba's Eurovision victory.

AUSTRALIAN WOMAN'S DAY

On page 11 of Australian Woman's Day there is a full page article with all the usual lines "Mamma Mia - here she goes again! ABBA's Agnetha Faltskog comes out of self-imposed hiding to relaunch her solo career."

All the usual things are said about the album, Garbo, ABBA, yoga, Gert, etc. and ends with the quote "I like being a little star, being a big star is too much pressure." Nice pics, including a huge colour new one with the nice fluffy hair and pink glossy lips. It's on Australian newstands today.

Thanks to ABBAMAILer Patrick Blake, Gold Coast, Australia.

AGNETHA IN CLOSER MAGAZINE

There is an Agnetha feature in the UK's "Closer" magazine.

I don't think the article on Agnetha is actually worth transcribing, as it has nothing new to say, but it's in the issue dated 20-26 March for anyone interested.

It's entirely about Agnetha and Gert, with a picture of him as well as the
recent 'shoulders' shot of Agnetha.

BENNY & ANDERS: NEW PROJECT

"Med Blågula ögon" is the title of Anders Hanser's new "project", with music
by Benny Andersson. It will be presented at Dalhalla, Rättvik at 2200 on
Friday 9 July. I've yet to discover whether this is new music written by
Benny, or using existing music.

Secondly, music from Kristina is used in "Carin Danielsdotter" which runs at
Migranternas Hus, Alfta from 6 June through to 10 July. I have a feeling
this is the same production that ran last year as well that had permission
to use music from Kristina.

EXPRESSEN'S TAKE ON "REUNION"

ABBA's comeback will be a video. All details about the group's participation
in the Eurovision Song Contest are confirmed. But the project leaders don't
want to reveal anything.

It's 30 years since ABBA won in Brighton. Expressen wrote two weeks ago
about the discussions with ABBA members about their participation in the
show in Istanbul. Shortly after that it Anni-Frid Reuss Lyngstad, Benny
Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus refused to appear on the stage togehter.

- What should we do there? said Benny Andersson to Expressen.

But EBU (the European broadcast union) will get half of their wish fulfilled. It is confirmed that ABBA members participate in a video recording. The video is in production right now.

Svante Stockselius who has the highest responsibility for the event does not
want to give any comments.

- I cannot say anything about ABBA.

Will ABBA be celebrated during the show in Istanbul?

- I don't want to say anything before everything is confirmed.

Thanks to ABBAMAILer Paul Carter, London, UK and the excellent www.raffem.com site

AFTONBLADET TRANSLATION - "REUNION"

Here's my translation of the article that ABBAMAILer Marnix ten Brinke mentioned, about ABBA's possible reunion in London.

----------------

Reunite in London - on the 30th anniversary

Comback in Eurovision Song Contest - on film.

But ABBA's real reunion takes place already in about two weeks - in London.

- It will be a world sensation, reliable sources say.

Yesterday Aftonbladet revealed that ABBA will make a comeback in Eurovision
Song Contest 30 years after the victory with "Waterloo".

Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad
participate in a newly taped tribute film that will be played during the
contest in Istanbul in May.

But the physical reunion of the legendary group's members will already take
place in about two weeks.

30th anniversary

On the 6th of April it'll be exactly 30 years since the group won the ESC in
Brighton. Furthermore Björn Ulvaeus' and Benny Andersson's ABBA-musical
"Mamma Mia" turns 5 years old.

The double jubilee will be celebrated with a big gala and party in London.

And the event will also offer a sensation that the fans and all the world's
photographers have been longing for for decades.

All the members of ABBA will reunite.

- They will allow being photographed together, but they won't perform
together, a reliable source says.

Sources in the ABBA-camp confirm that Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and
Anni-Frid Lyngstad have definitely agreed to it.

Afraid of flying

The only questionmark is Agnetha Fältskog, who now is making a comeback as a solo artist.

- She has declined, but still left it open. She is really interested in going. The only thing that prevents her is her fear of flying which is really serious. She is very afraid.

- It all depends on how she's feeling that day, says a source very close to
Agnetha Fältskog.

To solve the problem, other sources of transportation are being considered.

In April ABBA will release a new edition of the classic album "Waterloo".

In about a week there will also be a DVD that contains the group's legendary
concert at Wembley in London 1979.

LINDA ON BEING MUM'S BACKING VOCALIST!

I went to http://www.raffem.com/ and I read the print version of the article
from Aftonbladet the other day where the track listing of Agnetha's new
album was revealed plus the news that Linda is singing in the background on
three of the tracks. There's some additional info that wasn't in the online
edition. Aftonbladet talked to Linda and here's a snippet from the article:

------------

- The most important thing is that it's been so much fun for my mum to record this album, she says.

Right now she's busy rehearsing before the premiere of "Vem är rädd för
Virginia Woolf" ("Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf") on March 29.

During the recording of her mother's new album "My Colouring Book" she had
time to participate in a few of the songs - as a back up singer.

Linda Ulvaeus is satisfied with the result, but she doesn't want to overemphasize her contribution.

- I haven't been a part of it as much as the others. I went in for just one day and did my part, she says.

------------------

The songs that Linda sing back up on are "Love Me With All Your Heart",
"Past, Present, Future" and "When You Walk In The Room".
