OCTOBER 2004

And now we take you back to the ABBA Press Conference...
It's Australia in March 1976 again for our Picture of the Month.
Another great shot from the press conference during ABBA's promotional tour. and this time we're at the
ABBA press conference in Sydney, Australia.
This great shot shows we Australia fell in love with the radiant Agnetha Fältskog or "Anna from ABBA"
as she was known in Oz back then. Behind "Anna" is the gigantic reproduction of the Australian
"Best of ABBA" LP cover that RCA had specially made for the press conference.
ABBA's amazing success was not only a bonanza for RCA - the rest of the record industry
benefited as well - ABBA's success led to an increase interest in pop music generally and helped
improve sales of other artists' singles and LPs at the time.
ABBA got people back into record shops!
Other record companies freely acknowledged ABBA's importance and effect on overall sales that year.
This no doubt led to the spirit of co-operation that allowed RCA Australia to utilise 7 different pressing
plants in Australia and New Zealand to meet the pre-order demand for "ARRIVAL" later that year:
some 760,000 were sold before the LP was actually released!
